Training and Education

The collaborative working model of Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS) is the basis for efficient education of users on fundamental aspects of chemical biology. In the current operating model each user refines their crude assay concept under guidance of CBCS staff in our laboratories, thus enabling user education in principles of assay design and development. To further support this, we have compiled an easily accessible “Assay development guidelines” compendium.

In addition to this intrinsic education CBCS organizes two courses on a regular basis. “Introduction to high throughput screening” is a theoretical on-line course to the basics of high-throughput screening. The second course “Assay development in high throughput screening” is a course that gives a practical basis for assay development in high throughput screening. The course is given as complement to the theoretical on-line course. Passed examination of the theoretical course is a prerequisite for taking the practical.

Introduction to High Throughput Screening, 2 ECTS

The course gives a broad introduction to high throughput screening (HTS) that is technique used to identify biologically active small organic molecules through screening of compound libraries with the help of robust test systems and advanced instrumentation.

Participants can start at any time and study at their own pace since the course is entirely web-based. The course material is in English consisting of text and explanatory figures, video lectures, review articles, and movies.

Assay Development in High Throughput Screening, 2 ECTS

The course gives a practical basis for assay development in high throughput screening. The course is given as complement to the theoretical on-line course "Introduction to high throughput screening" (see above). Passed examination of the theoretical course is a prerequisite for taking the practical.
