CBCS will assist academic researchers at Swedish academic institutions with the development of chemical probes (small organic molecules) for use in biological and biomedicinal research.
The key services that CBCS will provide are:
- § Assay development and screen formatting
- § Screening of small-molecule libraries
- § Hit confirmation
- § Computational chemistry & modelling
- § Medicinal chemistry consultation
- § Iterative chemical optimisation (“hit to probe”)
- § Physiochemical and pharmacokinetic profiling of compounds
Projects can consist of a combination of the above described components and range from brief initiatives to longer-term collaborations between the consortium and principal investigators at Swedish universities. The progression of projects will be based on “stop/go criteria” defined in the project plan.
Resources provided through CBCS will be made available through a peer-review mechanism, where project applications (submitted via this website) are triaged against each other based on merit, scientific impact and practical feasibility. All interested principal investigators are encouraged to contact a representative of CBCS for detailed discussions of the current status of each project prior to submitting an official application for resources.
Projects will preferentially be performed in a collaborative mode, i.e. the scientific responsibility will be shared between the research group and CBCS. A clear publication strategy will be required for each project, and scientific results will be made public through joint publications by the research group and CBCS. In cases where the project collaboration results in findings of potential commercial interest, the costs, responsibility and ownership of intellectual property and its development lies solely on the Principal Investigator in accordance to terms set forth in the CBCS User Agreement Form. CBCS will not claim, establish or uphold intellectual property rights for results stemming from collaborative CBCS projects nor claim ownership of commercialisation endevours associated with project results.
CBCS is a National Research Infrastructure as defined by the Swedish Research Council. The resources provided through its services are thus free of charge. CBCS will, however, charge a fee commensurate to materials and consumables associated with the project activities. A financial forecast for the specific project will be agreed upon prior to the User Agreement Form is signed.
