Since 2006 LCBU offers open-access small molecule screening to academic research groups, research institutes and SMEs. LCBU currently has seven full time employees and is located at the Department of Chemistry, Umeå University, Sweden. The facility provides key expertise in assay development, screening including high content screening using automated fluorescense microscopy and fragment based screening using NMR spectroscopy, as well as computational, organic, and medicinal chemistry. In a bioprospecting project in collaboration with the University of Tromsø natural product libraries based on secondary metabolites produced by microrganisms living in the Arctic Sea are explored.

The Swedish Research Council, Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation, VINNOVA, Kempe foundation, Carl Trygger foundation, Umeå Center for Microbial Research, Umeå Biotech Incubator, Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden, Creative Antibiotics and Umeå city council are acknowledged for financial support.
